The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jones. They are betting Legette proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Drake Maye at No. 4 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Xavier Legette this early at the Round 2 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Keon Coleman still on the board at the 68th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Khyree Jackson at slot 90 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A minor itch, scratched.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Trey Benson in the 102nd overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ben Sinnott at pick 136 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jalyx Hunt in pick No. 158 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster logic is harder to follow.
They took Luke McCaffrey at par in No. 166, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kamal Hadden at pick 179 is the proof. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Jaylen Harrell at slot 185 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Elijah Jones in pick No. 231 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
