The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. The final tally is a middling C-.
The Owens pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Benson steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Kingsley Suamataia in pick No. 34 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Legette in pick 72; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Cam Hart in Round 3, Pick 27 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A tidy bit of business in No. 112, where Trey Benson graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A conviction pick on Fabien Lovett at the 136th overall pick that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jalyx Hunt in the 158th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tyler Owens in slot 192, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Tip Reiman at pick 226 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
