The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A mixed bag that lands at C+.
They will need Harrell to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Coleman pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
If Drake Maye and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia at slot 39 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Keon Coleman in No. 56 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cam Hart slid further than he should have, and the 102nd overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Fair-plus on Ben Sinnott, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jaylen Harrell at the Round 6 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tyler Owens in Round 6, Pick 17 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Bub Means at pick 231 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
