If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Commanders, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jones. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Commanders clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Chop Robinson at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Michael Hall Jr. at Round 4, Pick 2 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Blake Fisher at No. 110 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Max Melton. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kris Abrams-Draine at the 127th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jahdae Barron at pick No. 181 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They let Cody Schrader come to them and pounced at pick 188. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ben Bywater at Round 7, Pick 3 is the proof. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They will replay Kaden Prather at No. 225 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick No. 252 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
