The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Randolph Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Drake Maye at pick 6, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Troy Fautanu in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 39 with a little surplus value in Ladd McConkey. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Brenden Rice in No. 68, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Matt Goncalves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They liked Ben Sinnott enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 4, Pick 36. It fills a real need, too.
They let Tommy Eichenberg come to them and pounced at the 140th pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A edge rusher of that caliber at slot 182 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Myles Jones at Round 7, Pick 9 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
