After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
The McClellan steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Hunt pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
With edge rusher and safety unsolved, spending premium capital on S-EDGE is the choice that costs them. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
A premium they did not need to pay, Kingsley Suamataia a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jalen McMillan at the Round 3 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Brenden Rice in Round 4, Pick 7 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A real head-scratcher, Fabien Lovett in the 122nd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose S-EDGE. Jalyx Hunt in the 136th overall pick leaves edge rusher and safety for later.
AJ Barner at pick 146 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
A reach on Elijah Jones in slot 182; the board had better options right there. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Caedan Wallace at the Round 6 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jase McClellan in Round 7, Pick 9 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
