The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
The Coleman pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The Green pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
They read the board right and Amarius Mims was the payoff at the 34th pick. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Keon Coleman all the way to pick 68, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach on Ben Sinnott in the 122nd overall pick; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A wild overpay on Fabien Lovett in Round 4, Pick 25, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A slide stopped in No. 146, with Christian Jones worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jalyx Hunt at the Round 5 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
Value with a capital V on Luke McCaffrey in pick No. 182, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Elijah Jones at the Round 6 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A real head-scratcher, Jalen Green in the 229th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
