After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
Hardy falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The cost of the Means reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Adonai Mitchell at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, Patrick Paul went about where he belonged in No. 68. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Fabien Lovett in pick No. 122 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy little value on Ben Sinnott in slot 136, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
A wild overpay on Jalyx Hunt in pick 144, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Elijah Jones at the 182nd overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Bub Means well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Daequan Hardy still on the board at pick No. 237. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
