Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They are betting McMahon proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Coleman falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
Kingsley Suamataia at the 35th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Somehow Keon Coleman was still sitting there in slot 80, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 4, Pick 4 with a little surplus value in Jalen McMillan. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach for Ben Sinnott in the Round 4 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Fabien Lovett in pick No. 136 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid up for Jalyx Hunt at the 156th pick when waiting would have done the job. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Value said wait; Elijah Jones in No. 175 says they were not listening. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A conviction pick on Daijun Edwards at the 193rd pick that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached a country mile for Dylan McMahon at pick No. 217, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Bub Means in Round 7, Pick 9, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jalen Green. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
