Somebody in the 89th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Connor Lew, the No. 61 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
If Arvell Reese and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 23 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Dillon Thieneman in pick No. 57 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Circle this one: Caleb Banks at the 60th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Connor Lew still on the board at No. 89. A need, and now a little less of one.
Bryce Lance at Round 4, Pick 29 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Desmond Reid at the Round 7 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
John Michael Gyllenborg in slot 241 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
