You can draft well and still miss the point. The Cowboys did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to quarterback, which was the need that mattered most.
Williams has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. That Beebe pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 30 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They jumped the gun on Javon Bullard, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Cooper Beebe is a better player than the 87th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No edge and no loss on Bucky Irving in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Tommy Eichenberg at No. 124 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Javon Foster at slot 125 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Isaiah Williams at the 174th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Maurice Smith at pick 219 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Dwight McGlothern in the 245th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
