For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Vikings walked out of the weekend still thin at quarterback, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Hecht at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Job largely done: safety settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 18 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
A slide stopped in No. 49, with Emmanuel McNeil-Warren worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nice patience on Treydan Stukes, who had no business lasting to Round 3, Pick 18. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Value with a capital V on Sam Hecht in the Round 4 slot, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kaytron Allen at slot 163 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kendrick Law in the 196th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
TJ Hall at the 234th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
No edge and no loss on Jaren Kanak in pick 235; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A clean, defensible pick in the 244th pick with a little surplus value in Noah Whittington. It fills a real need, too.
Zavion Thomas slid further than he should have, and the 246th overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
