The Rondell Bothroyd selection is the head-turner. The Packers reached 67 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.

The Packers indulged a want in Solomon while a need in quarterback and interior defensive lineman stayed open. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Nate Wiggins · CB · rank 15
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 51
They jumped the gun on Jackson Powers-Johnson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 57
A straight-up fair deal on Chris Braswell at Round 2, Pick 25, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 96
They paid up for Tykee Smith at the 88th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Javon Solomon · OLB-EDGE · rank 109
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback and interior defensive lineman to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 163
A wild overpay on Jaylen Wright in slot 126, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 183
Jaylan Ford in the 168th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · De'Corian Clark · WR · rank 212
A premium they did not need to pay, De'Corian Clark a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 251
Trevor Keegan in the 216th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Rondell Bothroyd · DL-EDGE · rank 310
They left a pile of value on the table to take Rondell Bothroyd this early at pick No. 243. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Tanner McLachlan · TE · rank 290
Value said wait; Tanner McLachlan in No. 251 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
