Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Tahj Brooks got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at slot 249. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Stackhouse reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jalon Walker in the 44th overall pick, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Omarion Hampton at pick 76 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Taking Jake Majors in the 150th pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Ty Robinson in No. 170; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cam Skattebo in slot 172 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They talked themselves into Nazir Stackhouse at the Round 5 slot, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Lathan Ransom at Round 6, Pick 12 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Steal is underselling it; Tyler Cooper at No. 211 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tahj Brooks at Round 7, Pick 31 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
