Somebody in pick 169 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Eagles sat still while Kyren Lacy, the No. 134 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Jackson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.
They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptor off the edge, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They reached a country mile for Donovan Jackson at Round 2, Pick 32, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dylan Fairchild at the 102nd overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
Smael Mondon Jr. at the 129th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Taking Tommi Hill in slot 162 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They left a pile of value on the table to take JJ Pegues this early at pick No. 166. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kyren Lacy in pick 169 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
