There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cowboys took Barryn Sorrell a full 117 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
On value alone, King makes the weekend a net positive. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a home-run threat at receiver, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They let Grey Zabel come to them and pounced at pick 44. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A slide stopped in pick No. 76, with Deone Walker worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for O'Donnell Fortune here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cody Simon in slot 170 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A big swing on Cam Jackson at the 172nd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They jumped the gun on Jaylen Reed, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Steal is underselling it; Kobe King at the 190th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Barryn Sorrell in slot 211 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaydon Blue this early at Round 7, Pick 31. A need, and now a little less of one.
