The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Amarius Mims, the 50th pick, roughly 28 picks past where he belonged. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Every board in the league had McLachlan lower, and that gap is the story. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Laiatu Latu slid further than he should have, and the Round 1 slot is lovely value for the edge rusher. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Amarius Mims at slot 50 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 54 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value with a capital V on Mike Sainristil in pick 97, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Edefuan Ulofoshio in Round 5, Pick 24 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Chau Smith-Wade at No. 170 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Michael Barrett at the 171st overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A straight-up fair deal on Isaiah Davis at the 178th pick, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached into another round for Tanner McLachlan, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
