The Packers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Mike Sainristil, the No. 87 name on the board, in the 125th overall pick.
The Williams pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th pick they get a ballhawk on the outside, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A slide stopped in No. 43, with Kamari Lassiter worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid a round early for Javon Bullard in slot 57, more than the board wanted. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Nice patience on Junior Colson, who had no business lasting to pick No. 88. A minor itch, scratched.
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 29, where Christian Mahogany graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Bucky Irving at pick 97, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 4 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A want over a need in the 135th overall pick: James Williams adds a safety while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots keeps waiting.
