The Cowboys put a flag in the ground for Barryn Sorrell, 156 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Gordon II falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a ballhawk on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Jihaad Campbell. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value said wait; Savion Williams in pick No. 76 says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Steal is underselling it; Jack Nelson at slot 150 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cam Jackson in No. 170 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Barryn Sorrell at the 172nd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They jumped the gun on Jaylen Reed, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Good price on JJ Pegues in No. 190, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They will replay Ollie Gordon II at pick 211 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaydon Blue well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
