The Vikings put a flag in the ground for Xavier Thomas, 25 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. However the rest shakes out, Hicks at that price is a win they earned.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a double-digit-sack hope, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
T'Vondre Sweat in the Round 2 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They did well to land Dominick Puni in the 108th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaden Hicks at the 120th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Malik Washington at pick No. 129 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 149 with a little surplus value in Dylan Laube. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
LaDarius Henderson in No. 160 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Kitan Oladapo at the 168th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Michael Barrett. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Gabe Hall in the Round 6 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Xavier Thomas at slot 230, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
