Some picks age like wine; Sam Hartman at slot 202 will need to, sitting 57 spots clear of his grade. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 41 with a little surplus value in Jordan Morgan. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Payton Wilson at pick 58 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Max Melton at slot 88. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Mahogany at the 91st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ben Sinnott in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Malik Mustapha went about where he belonged in the 169th pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A big swing on Sam Hartman at pick No. 202, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
