The David Gusta pick is the one that will follow the Broncos into the fall. They took him 31 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They banked enough surplus on Louis to cover a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: linebacker settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Antonio Williams went about where he belonged in the 62nd overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Sam Roush all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kyle Louis in Round 4, Pick 11 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
David Gusta in slot 170 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached a country mile for Daevin Hobbs at the 246th pick, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Steal is underselling it; Eli Heidenreich at pick No. 256 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Fa'alili Fa'amoe at pick No. 257 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
