Nobody else had Red Murdock anywhere near the Round 5 slot. The Buccaneers did, by 33 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The Dixon value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They left with tight end solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get juice off the edge, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Gabe Jacas at the 46th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No edge and no loss on Max Klare in the 77th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Mason Reiger this early at No. 116. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Red Murdock at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Nothing to complain about; Eric McAlister went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Thaddeus Dixon at the 229th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
