The Chiefs went off the board in a big way for Logan Fano, 45 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jones. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. Tight end was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They read the board right and Caleb Downs was the payoff at the Round 1 slot. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
In the 29th pick they get a security blanket over the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Zion Young at pick No. 40 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A big swing on Emmett Johnson at Round 3, Pick 10, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Logan Jones reach slot 109 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Rayshaun Benny in pick 148 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Tanner Koziol at pick No. 169 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, DJ Campbell at the 176th pick squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Logan Fano this early at slot 210. A need, and now a little less of one.
