There is conviction, and then there is this. The Ravens took Vincent Anthony Jr. a full 49 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Getting Coleman Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 14 they get a weapon on the perimeter. A real need, handled.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, LT Overton well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They liked Drew Shelton enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 3 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Max Llewellyn at the 115th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy little value on Jaeden Roberts in slot 154, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Zxavian Harris higher than pick 162, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Vincent Anthony Jr.. The roster fit checks out.
Nice patience on Kevin Coleman Jr., who had no business lasting to the Round 5 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Eric O'Neill at No. 211 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Alan Herron. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jerry Wilson in the 253rd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
