The board owed the Saints one, and it paid up: Drew Allar, the No. 153 name on the board, sitting there at Round 5, Pick 32 like a gift left on the doorstep. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 8 they get a double-digit-sack hope. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Joshua Josephs at par in slot 42, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No drama and no debate, Domonique Orange went about where he belonged in the 73rd overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Bishop Fitzgerald is a better player than pick No. 132 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
CJ Daniels in Round 4, Pick 36 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Hezekiah Masses in the 150th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Drew Allar in No. 172 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pat Coogan at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
