You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Texans did exactly that with Brian Parker II in Round 2, Pick 27. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Nwankpa falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 28th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
Christen Miller at pick 38 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Brian Parker II in the 59th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jadarian Price in pick No. 69 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tacario Davis in the Round 4 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Fair-plus on Eric Rivers, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in the 243rd pick, where Xavier Nwankpa graded well above the range. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
