The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Tommy Eichenberg, the No. 145 name on the board, in Round 5, Pick 38. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Darius Robinson at the 56th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Max Melton at pick No. 87. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tommy Eichenberg at Round 5, Pick 38 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Tahj Washington was still sitting there in pick 216, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Frank Gore Jr. in slot 233. The roster fit checks out.
A slide stopped in the Round 7 slot, with Tylan Grable worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
