Somebody in the Round 5 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Eagles sat still while Kevin Winston Jr., the No. 93 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Reaching for Alexander left real value on the table behind him. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
The board fumbled Jalon Walker all the way to the 63rd pick, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They reached into another round for Darius Alexander, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Gunnar Helm at the 96th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for TreVeyon Henderson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Dylan Fairchild at pick 132 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Smael Mondon Jr. in No. 160 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Kevin Winston Jr. in slot 164, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Ryan Fitzgerald in Round 5, Pick 29 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
