Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent the 174th overall pick on Jalen Coker, a name most had 37 spots down the list. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Mims. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd pick they get a long-term starter on the line at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Zach Frazier in the 56th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cedric Gray in pick No. 87 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Braelon Allen in Round 4, Pick 5 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
A real head-scratcher, Jalen Coker in slot 174 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They talked themselves into Myles Murphy at No. 216, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nothing to complain about; Trey Taylor went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They let Eyabi Okie-Anoma come to them and pounced at No. 244. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
