After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Tracy Jr. pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 6
No edge and no loss on Jayden Daniels in No. 3; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 34
Jordan Morgan at pick 34 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Ennis Rakestraw Jr. · CB · rank 37
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the 36th pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Troy Franklin · WR · rank 35
Good price on Troy Franklin in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 58
The board had T.J. Tampa higher than pick No. 67, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 65
Cooper Beebe in Round 3, Pick 4 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Cade Stover · TE · rank 83
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cade Stover. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 97
Roger Rosengarten at the 100th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 100
Kamren Kinchens at the 103rd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 146
By-the-book stuff, Tommy Eichenberg at Round 5, Pick 3 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · Tyrone Tracy Jr. · WR · rank 126
Taking Tyrone Tracy Jr. in pick 152 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
