The Falcons spent the pick that matters most on Michael Penix Jr., and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
They are betting Burch proves the room right and everyone else wrong. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
On value alone, Barron makes the weekend a net positive. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 10 they get a long-term answer under center. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They paid a round early for Brandon Dorlus in slot 42, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 3 slot with a little surplus value in Ja'Lynn Polk. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid up for Jalen McMillan at the 110th pick when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They talked themselves into Jordan Burch at Round 5, Pick 11, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Layden Robinson at No. 188, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A premium they did not need to pay, Marques Cox a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A real head-scratcher, Benjamin Yurosek in pick No. 231 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Jahdae Barron slipping to the Round 7 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It adds depth where they could use a little.
