The Commanders lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They banked enough surplus on Mitchell to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will need Yurosek to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 19 they get juice off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
Graham Barton at the 36th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value with a capital V on Quinyon Mitchell in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Will Shipley in pick No. 104. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A slide stopped in pick 141, with Tykee Smith worth more than the price. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Shemar Turner at Round 5, Pick 7 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They did well to land Ricky White in the 182nd pick, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They talked themselves into Benjamin Yurosek at pick No. 247, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
