Call it larceny. Tanner Koziol sat on the board until the 233rd overall pick, and the Jaguars did not need to be asked twice. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Every board in the league had Reiger lower, and that gap is the story. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
The board fumbled Anthony Hill Jr. all the way to Round 2, Pick 24, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow D'Angelo Ponds was still sitting there in No. 81, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Lee Hunter at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Michael Taaffe at the 100th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Mason Reiger at pick 124 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Hezekiah Masses at pick No. 164 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Chris McClellan reach slot 166 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Steal is underselling it; Seth McGowan at the 203rd overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tanner Koziol in pick No. 233 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Josh Cameron in pick 240 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach on Nick Barrett in the 245th pick; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
