Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jake Golday got past him. The Jaguars do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 100.

They will answer for taking edge rusher early while quarterback went begging. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Every board in the league had Proctor lower, and that gap is the story.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.9 · Pick 41 · Akheem Mesidor · DL-EDGE · rank 37
Akheem Mesidor in slot 41 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.17 · Pick 81 · Emmanuel McNeil-Warren · S · rank 51
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at the 81st overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.36 · Pick 100 · Jake Golday · OLB · rank 59
Of all the spots to shop, they chose edge rusher. Jake Golday in No. 100 leaves quarterback for later.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Kaleb Proctor · DL · rank 135
The board had cheaper options than Kaleb Proctor at pick 125, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.24 · Pick 164 · Charles Demmings · CB · rank 149
They read the board right and Charles Demmings was the payoff at pick No. 164. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.26 · Pick 166 · Malik Benson · WR · rank 145
Steal is underselling it; Malik Benson at Round 5, Pick 26 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.21 · Pick 202 · Dae'Quan Wright · TE · rank 181
Dae'Quan Wright at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.22 · Pick 203 · Red Murdock · LB · rank 193
Red Murdock at the 203rd pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.17 · Pick 233 · Jaydn Ott · RB · rank 238
They took Jaydn Ott at par in Round 7, Pick 17, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
R7.24 · Pick 240 · Andre Fuller · CB · rank 234
Good price on Andre Fuller in pick No. 240, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.29 · Pick 245 · Nolan Rucci · OT · rank 252
No drama and no debate, Nolan Rucci went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
