The Giants treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick 181 on Storm Duck a full 34 spots early.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. With interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on defensive back is the choice that costs them.
The Giants clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Joe Alt at Round 1, Pick 8, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
In the 29th pick they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A curious use of slot 35. Interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots needed the pick; a defensive back in Tyler Nubin did not.
Trey Benson in the 57th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jermaine Burton in pick No. 67 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Tate Ratledge at par in pick 103, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Devontez Walker in the 140th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Ben Sinnott a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
A wild overpay on Storm Duck in pick No. 181, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
