Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
They banked enough surplus on Richardson to cover a lot of smaller sins. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
JC Latham at No. 34 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They barely believed it either: Troy Franklin still on the board at slot 68. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They read the board right and Calen Bullock was the payoff at Round 4, Pick 3. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Somehow MarShawn Lloyd was still sitting there in pick No. 137, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Circle this one: Jared Wiley at the 180th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Khristian Boyd at pick 193 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Steal is underselling it; Decamerion Richardson at the 231st pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
