The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The Tupuola-Fetui pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Adonai Mitchell in Round 2, Pick 2. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Kiran Amegadjie went about where he belonged in pick 68. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nice patience on Caelen Carson, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They liked Dallin Holker enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 137. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Jha'Quan Jackson at the 180th pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They talked themselves into Zion Tupuola-Fetui at the 193rd overall pick, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tylan Grable at slot 231 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
