The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C- in the wash.
The cost of the Jackson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
That is an edge rusher worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Hit on Drake Maye and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
Drake Maye at the Round 1 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quiet steal in No. 34: Jordan Morgan for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They let Chris Braswell come to them and pounced at slot 68. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.

Donovan Jennings at the 229th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
