Green Bay Packers

A costly weekend of dealing drags the Packers to a C.

The Packers lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

Bethune has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The Jones pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 33
In slot 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 37
Kamren Kinchens in pick 41 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · T'Vondre Sweat · DL · rank 60
No edge and no loss on T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 25; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 80
They read the board right and Christian Mahogany was the payoff at the 88th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 93
Bucky Irving at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 119
They jumped the gun on Darius Robinson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 131
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cedric Gray. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 151
A reach on Braelon Allen in pick No. 135; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 190
Christian Jones is a better player than pick 203 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · BJ Mayes · CB · rank 221
BJ Mayes in Round 6, Pick 42 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Tatum Bethune · LB · rank 245
Value said wait; Tatum Bethune in No. 219 says they were not listening. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 249
By-the-book stuff, Dwight McGlothern at slot 246 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
