Nobody had Tommy Eichenberg this high, and it is not close. The Cowboys reached 42 spots to get him at No. 103. Little went right, and the F does not pretend otherwise.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. J.J. McCarthy gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
On value alone, Jones makes the weekend a net positive.
About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with wide receiver still staring back at them.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get the arm they will build around, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
In the 24th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jonathon Brooks in pick 34 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
T'Vondre Sweat at Round 2, Pick 5 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Zak Zinter in slot 87 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value said wait; Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 103 says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Christian Jones in pick 174 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
