The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Bell reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They banked enough surplus on Lloyd to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Adonai Mitchell. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 3, where MarShawn Lloyd graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
A big swing on Jaheim Bell at pick No. 137, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A clean, defensible pick in the 180th pick with a little surplus value in Decamerion Richardson. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Bub Means. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tylan Grable at slot 231 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
