You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Landing Hunter that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 10th overall pick they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
They did well to land Akheem Mesidor in pick 41, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Anthony Hill Jr. at the 60th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Lee Hunter in pick No. 72 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had Mike Washington Jr. higher than slot 89, and the running back fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Parker Brailsford in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Thaddeus Dixon in slot 239 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy little value on Xavier Nwankpa in the Round 7 slot, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
