Somebody in the 202nd overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Cam Skattebo, the No. 114 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Spending an early pick on safety with wide receiver, cornerback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
They robbed the room for Nick Emmanwori here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick No. 80 on Andrew Mukuba with wide receiver, cornerback and other spots unsolved.
A slide stopped in the Round 5 slot, with Sonny Styles worth more than the price. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Smael Mondon Jr. in slot 147 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Cam Skattebo at No. 202 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board fumbled Jaishawn Barham all the way to Round 7, Pick 20, and they scooped it up. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Jake Briningstool at pick 244 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
