You could see the war room lean forward. Cam Skattebo at the Round 6 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Stephon Gilmore pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick-by-Pick
Nick Emmanwori in Round 1, Pick 30 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jalon Walker in pick 59 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jayden Higgins in slot 80. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kevin Winston Jr. at the 147th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Cam Skattebo at the 202nd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 236 is the definition of value, full stop. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Jake Briningstool at pick No. 244 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
