They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Vikings' quarterback, full stop. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The Dixon pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 11 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, J.J. McCarthy went about where he belonged in Round 1, Pick 23. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Mekhi Wingo at No. 108 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
By-the-book stuff, Sataoa Laumea at the 129th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nice patience on Mason McCormick, who had no business lasting to pick No. 157. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jacob Cowing in the 167th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Tykee Smith in the Round 6 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A cornerback of that caliber at slot 230 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Frank Gore Jr. in Round 7, Pick 12. The roster fit checks out.
