It is a puzzling start. The Packers had cornerback, quarterback and other spots to solve and reached instead for Marist Liufau, a linebacker, at Round 3, Pick 25. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. That Williams pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a cornerstone up front at fair value.
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Worthy at the 41st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in No. 57; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Marist Liufau adds a linebacker and leaves cornerback, quarterback and other spots untouched.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 3 slot with a little surplus value in McKinnley Jackson. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Justin Eboigbe. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Cole Bishop slipping to slot 135 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Isaiah Williams at pick 203 is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
Jase McClellan at the 217th pick is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in slot 219, where Isaiah Neyor graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Donovan Jennings in pick No. 246 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
