Call it larceny. Cornelius Johnson sat on the board until Round 7, Pick 20, and the Eagles did not need to be asked twice. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
If Gore Jr. pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd overall pick they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A edge rusher of that caliber at pick No. 50 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kamari Lassiter slid further than he should have, and No. 53 is lovely value for the cornerback. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Jalen McMillan at slot 97, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached into another round for Johnny Dixon, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Drake Nugent in pick 170, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A premium they did not need to pay, Caedan Wallace a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Frank Gore Jr. at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They went early on Joe Milton III in the 189th overall pick, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They will replay Cornelius Johnson at slot 240 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
