A masterclass at the trade table lands the Bills a B-.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Jeff Caldwell, 153 picks early at Round 2, Pick 8. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Dixon pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with offensive lineman, quarterback and other spots still on the board.

That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

Good work on the whole, with offensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Omar Cooper Jr. · WR · rank 35
Omar Cooper Jr. in pick No. 2 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R1.9 · Pick 9 · LT Overton · DE-EDGE · rank 67
In the 9th pick they get a double-digit-sack hope, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
R1.13 · Pick 13 · Dani Dennis-Sutton · DE-EDGE · rank 85
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a premier pass rusher, a steep price for the projection.
R1.16 · Pick 16 · Jaishawn Barham · LB-EDGE · rank 116
In slot 16 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.26 · Pick 26 · Mason Reiger · LB-EDGE · rank 148
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside, though the board says they badly overpaid.
R1.29 · Pick 29 · Kaleb Elarms-Orr · LB · rank 181
In pick 29 they get a green-dot type in the middle, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.1 · Pick 33 · Dontay Corleone · DT · rank 70
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dontay Corleone this early at the 33rd overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Jeff Caldwell · WR · rank 193
Value said wait; Jeff Caldwell in No. 40 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.29 · Pick 61 · Bishop Fitzgerald · S · rank 125
This one needs a full-page explanation: Bishop Fitzgerald in Round 2, Pick 29, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Ephesians Prysock · CB · rank 192
A wild overpay on Ephesians Prysock in the 103rd pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Thaddeus Dixon · CB · rank 228
They bypassed pressing needs at offensive lineman, quarterback and other spots to take Thaddeus Dixon, a cornerback that was not the priority.
