Start where it matters. The Patriots took Bo Nix to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The Wiley pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Marcus Epps pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
They took Keon Coleman at par in pick 34, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Jonathon Brooks at the 44th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Junior Colson in No. 51 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Jaylin Simpson at the 137th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Walter Rouse at slot 180 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Trente Jones at pick No. 193 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Steal is underselling it; Jared Wiley at Round 7, Pick 11 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
